VeriSign Raises Domain Name Prices – Why is the small increase turning heads?

In: VoIP

7 Apr 2007

VeriSign, the company that controls the .com and .net domain name systems, has announced that it will be raising its fees on both domains. The fees, which are charged to domain registration sites such as GoDaddy, will increase 7% to $6.42 for .com and 10% to $3.85 for .net. Although the price hike only seems fair since it s the first one since 1999 when the fee structure for the domains was first laid out by ICANN, it has turned some heads with concern that the relationship between ICANN and VeriSign creates a monopoly for the company.
