Amazon Music: DRM Free? – While they’ve approached all labels, only EMI is biting

According to the UK’s Times Online, Amazon will be opening their music store next month, and they have approached all the major labels about selling unprotected songs in the MP3 format. The DRM-free approach comes, of course, on the heels of EMI’s similar offering via iTunes. Before people get too excited, it should be noted that so far only EMI is on board with Amazon’s plan; the larger labels don’t seem to share EMI’s progressive vision, and the article debunks an earlier rumor that Universal would be offering their classical catalog without DRM.
