A month or so ago, there was a wave of negative publicity for municipal Wi-Fi, as the mainstream press (and some towns) realized that simply throwing Wi-Fi access points around a city doesn’t automatically create utopia. A month later finds some analysis noting that yes, citywide Wi-Fi has problems, but deployments have been greatly helped if you know what the hell you’re doing and what your city needs: bquote “Wi-Fi is working in the areas where they did thorough needs assessment, aligning the technology with the needs of the end user, Settles said.
