An eight-legs/wheels robot ‘Halluc II’ to be introduced at IREX 2007

TOKYO, Japan (AVING Special Report on ’2007 IREX’) — Leading Edge Development and the Future Robotics Technology Center of Chiba Institute of Design demonstrated ‘Halluc II’ during IREX 2007. Depending on situation it faces, this eight-legs/wheels robot can move in six different ways; it can move forward on the legs or run on the wheels or step up the stairs.

It is 80.5cm long at 20kg and it is equipped with total 56 motors (7 motors for each leg). It also has 13 distance sensors, two lasers for obstacle detection, and three axial controllers. It is designed to transform the body into three different types; plain wheel mode, insect model and animal mode.
