Back in January, FiOS deployment in New York City was stalled as the result of closed-door negotiations between Verizon and the city. At the time, Verizon said that they believed negotiations would be complete by the end of March. Seems like they were fairly close to their time table as an announcement has come that the company is moving forward with its plans in all five boroughs where it has been installing (or trying to install) FiOS for months. The city has finally agreed to increase competition for the city s current provider, Cablevision, by accepting proposals from new cable TV providers, a step that s been more than a year and a half in the making. Although any company can file a proposal for a franchise in the area, it is believed that only Verizon will do so.
