Sprint has faced a lot of difficulties in the last year, difficulties which CEO Dan Hesse says are fixable but which have left the company in a tight spot. There are rumors floating around that one company which might be interested in helping Sprint out of that tight spot is Deutsche Telekom. The German telco owns T-Mobile (the nation s fourth largest wireless carrier); an acquisition of Sprint (the nation s third largest carrier) could potentially move the company into the number one spot for most wireless subscribers in the United States. However, it is unclear whether the company is talking about an acquisition or a merger – and rumor has it that they may not even be talking with Sprint but rather just thinking about the possibilities. Even if the intentions are serious, there could be problems from both the U.S. and Germany about allowing a German company to take over so much of the U.S. wireless market.
