CuPhone has produced the adaptor that I have been looking for over the past two years. Their “Echo Free” USB to Phone Adaptor is, as the name implies, an adaptor that will allow you to connect a standard landline telephone to the USB port of a computer. What’s more, they claim that the device will cancel echo in order to improve audio quality. More impressive is the full range of support that the adaptor offers to Skype, you can have Skype Caller ID, Skype speed dialing and it will ring on incoming calls.
