Bill Gates retired on Friday, so I think that it is only fitting that we pay tribute to the guy who pretty much shaped the personal computing world of today. I don’t care if you are the most diehard MacFan on the block, we all owe an awful lot to Bill Gates.
I had my first taste of personal computing many years ago on an MS-DOS machine and I never really looked back. My family made the jump to Windows when 3.11 came along and never looked back. While there have been a few versions along the way that were not up to scratch; Microsoft, under Bill’s direction has turned out some very good software.
Aside from Bill Gates’ contribution to computing, let’s not forget the contributions that he has made to the world in general. He gives generously and he sponsors a great deal of scientific research. As tough as it is to imagine Microsoft without Bill Gates, it will be great to see what he can achieve as a full-time philanthropist.
