Did you know that an empty Pringles can can be so much more than just a miniature drum or cubicle decorations? Over at Photocritic.org they have a tutorial showing you how to use an empty Pringles can as part of a homebrew extreme macro photography lens. Of course you’ll still need an actual lens for taking photos, but the can plus a couple of cannibalized lens and body covers serve as cheap substitutes for a bellows and lens reversing rings. There is a bit of grinding and cutting involved, but electronics noobs like myself will be happy to find there’s no soldering needed. And while the results aren’t pretty when it comes to the camera, the macro photos it produces are quite impressive.
