That is odd. Even though your number is in your “area”… where is the number being sourced from? When I located the number that I had been given, it was from a city that was one county over, same area code though but obviously “long distance” – I have people dial all 10 to avoid problems.

I just installed MagicJack. I cannot receive incoming calls using only 7 digits. Incoming calls from the same area code assigned to my MagicJack line require addition of 1 to my MagicJack-assigned number. In other words, anyone in my area code calling me on my MajicJack number, which has the same area code number, must treat the call as long distance. I am not clear if the caller would incur a long distance charge, but it is off putting in any case. Does anyone have a fix for this?

The cut-off isn’t really all that hidden as much as it is unannounced – conversations about it have been talked about over at the aforementioned Unofficial MagicJack Support site. I don’t tend to talk that much though.

Has anyone discovered the hidden feature that magic jack has? Magic Jack consistently disconnects your call at the 60 minute mark and wil not accept new orginations until 60 to 90 seconds later. Call a friend and try to talk for 60 minutes, you will discover this hidden feature. Other than having to dedicate a computer to provide magic jack phone service, it works reasonably well.

VERY well said Bubba. I can’t believe the amount of complaints I’ve ready online for the MJ which are complete idiots. Just look up the “Rip Off Report” user who wrote a review:

“They dont tell you that if you ever have a problem you WILL NEVER speak to a live representative, ”

Are you kidding me? Most internet based companies don’t have telephone services so they don’t have to waste money & time talking to you.

“They dont tell you up front that in order to have 24/7 phone access your computer can not go into hibernation or be shut off”

Isn’t this common sense? If my computer is off, I don’t complain to Logitec that my keyboard won’t type.

Really? Did you forget the 3 digits of your area code?

“They dont tell you that you can not be on your computer doing work because every time someone in your house picks up the phone or a call comes in a box pops up”

I’m sure that may be annoying, but are you really receiving calls by the minute? It’d be pretty helpful if you were the one on the computer. “while every 10 seconds you have a box popping up on your working screen,” If you’re making calls at a rate of 360 calls per hour, you need to analyze your needs.

When did the world start to assume that loading programs or running hardware on your PC won’t use up it’s resources? Honestly, have these people ever used a computer.

Unplug the phone, just use the software and see if it rings through. Also, use a number to test it that’s not associated with the account – sounds odd, but my cellphone fails when testing my MagicJack phone, but my Vonage phone # always worked.

And if possible, try another phone. I went with a Uniden and had no problems. I have a Vtech DECT 6.0 phone and it was sometimey.

The phone I am using with magicJack will/does not ring for incoming calls. All responses from magicJack re: this issue insist that the phone will ring on incoming calls to my magicjack setup. My laptop I am using for magicJack is not always where I can see the incoming calls on the screen so this non ringing situation is frustrating and a cause for me to quit using this otherwise great product. HELP!

I don’t mind the inconveniences cited above. I leave my computer on all day and rely on voice mail for off-hour calls. Plus I, like nearly everyone else has a cell phone and calls can be forwarded so off-hours calls go right to my cell phone.

MY BIGGEST GRIPE IS: It seems the only area phone carrier has caught on to these and no one can dial in to my number today. MagicJack worked for over an hour doing diagnostics and those results, along with the fact my system had been working normally for a month,tentatively concluded the exchange/number is being deliberately blocked. I’ll wait a few days until this is verified and then go to the Public Service Commission. That may be futile, because the gov’mint probably wants the revenue the major carriers generate and would favor them or make more proposals to get a tax hook into the internet.
