Light Reading notes that Portland will be one of the first Comcast markets to go all digital. “Portland is getting ready to go as we speak with the new DTA boxes, which are now in stock and in test homes,” Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said this week. The shift to all digital allows Comcast to reclaim spectrum from about 40 analog channels, reusing it for Docsis 3.0, HDTV and video-on-demand (VOD) services. About 20% of Comcast’s footprint will be all digital by year’s end, and Comcast estimates they’ll need about 25 million digital terminal adapters to complete the migration over the next 12 months to 18 months.
