Cablevision’s third quarter numbers indicate the operator is so far successfully beating back FiOS in the New York City metro area. According to Cablevision’s estimates, FiOS has passed about 1.4 million homes in the operator’s footprint as of the end of Septmeber, with video service available to about 1.3 million of them. Cablevision goes a little further than many cable operators, offering literally uncapped DOCSIS 2.0 service at speeds up to 30Mbps/5Mbps. So far, Cablevision’s beating FiOS back according to Wall Street analysts:
Of course Moffett is the guy who has been traditionally whiny about FiOS and network upgrades in general. Things could change as Verizon FiOS deployment expands. In preparation for that inevitability, Cablevision is spending 0 million to both upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0 and offer free Wi-Fi to all of their customers in the NY metro market over the next several years.
