Wii to deliver Video to TVs starting 2009 – Original content, both free and pay…

The Associated Press reports that Nintendo will begin offering video content via broadband-connected Wii gaming consoles starting in 2009. This won’t be a serious threat against existing Internet video delivery services — not only because the Wii lacks HDMI, but because the console will only be delivering “original Nintendo content,” and not third party TV shows and films. Nintendo isn’t being more specific about the content, but we’re guessing it will be cute, non-offensive, and colorful fare that may involve a certain energetic Italian plumber.
