Time Warner DDoS Update – Infected users who were suspended getting credits

Last week, somebody decided to launch a DDoS attack on Time Warner Cable’s west coast DNS servers, slowing service for a significant number of the company’s customers. In an update posted by company spokesman Jeff Simmermon, the company says there have been no attacks for going on five days, as they’ve updated to more sophisticated network protection hardware. According to the carrier, they temporarily suspended the accounts of zombified PCs that took part in the attack and are now crediting those users for lost service. In an act of bravery, the company says they visited some homes to “study their computers in their native environment,” in the process discovering that user IPs had been hijacked and spoofed.
