Om Malik gets an early peek at the latest quarterly Akamai “State of the Internet” report. As we discussed the last time this report was released, Akamai gathers the data from clients that have hit their global content server network, offering at least a partial glimpse of the full picture. According to Akamai, DOCSIS 3.0 and FTTH deployments have bumped the United States’s average downstream speed to 3.9Mbps. That ranks 17th globally in terms of broadband speed, though it’s far better than the global downstream average of just 1.5Mbps. Delaware remains the fastest State overall, with an average downstream speed of 7.28 Mbps, while Alaska is the slowest at 2Mbps. The full report will be available Monday here on Akamai’s website.
