8 Jan 2010Over the last six months, many AT&T employees have told us they expect the telco to continue laying off a considerable number of workers in 2010. The cuts are underway in California, where local news outlet KCRA notes that AT&T is planning to lay off 525 technicians statewide by the end of March. The cuts of course are tied, in part, to AT&T continues landline losses; AT&T landline revenues last quarter fell 7.1% to $16.3 billion from $17.6 billion one year ago. In Connecticut, where the telco already has a tense relationship with CT Attorney General Richard Blumenthal over previous layoffs, the company says they’re trimming an additional 160 jobs by February 19.

The Internet has come a long way since its inception. There are now several different ways to get an internet connection. One can do this by inserting wireless internet card in computer or can use DSL. Apart from this, internet phones and ip phones are there as well to help people connect internet through phones. Internet telephony is not the last option available, wireless internet providers are there as well to offer internet connectivity.

Any job tied to landlines is more or less doomed these days, as it is a dying technology in the long run. AT&T is doing what they need to do, sadly.

copper deteriorates. it needs to be replaced, at&t even uses for its u-verse-but at&t is not putting in new cable and is barely maintaining the copper facilities it has-they are laying off bodies and forsaking quality service in the name of a good healthy stock value. what exactly is going to happen with all that copper that nobody wants?? since we are not going to let china buy it why not nationalize it? brilliant!!!

All true but I work for ATT and we do a less than acceptable job vs what was the norm. Morale blows and training is nonexistant. Mgmt and union just going thru the motions of a deceased entity.
