MagicJack, The “One Year Later” Review

Remove The Labels reviews the MagicJack - 1 year later

I had gotten my first MagicJack USB VoIP device on July, 19 2007. After one small business trip, it somehow stopped working but the guys over at MagicJack replaced it without question last October. So my “one year review” truly started in October, 19 2007.

A year later, I have gone from Windows 2003 Server SP2 to Windows Vista SP1 - I know, I know… it still sucks - switched professions and cities, and I still am using the same replacement MagicJack device. I’ve even pumped in about $50 into making overseas calls while on-the-go - the rates are “competitive” to most countries… but honestly still a disappointment to some other countries compared to other VoIP options.

iPhone3G vs. Google G1 - billshrink.com co-founder provides the answers

Besides looking for the newest in gadgets and phones, I’m also always looking for a new way to save money. Always. I’ve seen and used a lot of “deal” and coupon sites and I’d like to pride myself with the thought that I budget my money quite well. But we all need help. My biggest problem though is that I’m not always aware of the best bill plan or how I could save a few dollars despite being quite aware of what’s new hardware-wise.

Enter BillShrink.com.

I had the lucky chance to quickly ask a few questions to the co-founder of BillShrink, Samir Kothari about the two biggest things going on in communication at this moment: the T-Mobile/Google/HTC G1 and the Apple iPhone 3G and how you might save a few dollars and his expert opinion about the iPhone 3G versus the G1.

A lot of users already own an iPhone 3G, if not the first generation iPhone. The total cost of ownership for these phones is much higher than the advertised, subsidized costs. What are the total cost of ownership for each for the subsidized two year ownership of an iPhone 3G versus a T-Mobile G1?

Samir: We agree whole-heartedly with your statement on the total cost of ownership (TCO) for these phones being much higher than just the initial price of the device.

Woot-Off In Progress

Deals, Gadgets, Hardware, Site Feeds, woot.com No Comments »

By Evan Ackerman

Bust out your credit card, ’cause tonight is a Woot-Off! Woot.com normally sells one heavily discounted gadgety item every 24 hours, but during a Woot-Off, a new item appears as soon as the current item sells out. Nobody knows what’s coming up next, but whatever it is, it’s dirt cheap (with flat rate shipping). Among the items you’ve missed so far were a two pack of 1 gig Kingston micro SD cards for , a WowWee Alive Elvis for , an 8″ x 6″ USB graphics tablet for , and a USB fish tank (woohoo!) for a totally worth it . There have also been HDTVs, monitors, hard drives, routers… The list goes on.

If you’re too lazy to refresh the page, here’s a list of automatic Woot-Off checkers.

New Feature: Image Uploader

Deals, Fashion, Site Feeds, T-Shirts No Comments »

We’ve just released a small, but handy little feature that not only allows you to upload multiple product images at once, but will also show you the progress of the uploads.

This should be a welcomed treat for anyone who has spent time uploading images one by one, and wondered when that spinning icon will go away.

New Feature: Inventory Reserve

Deals, Fashion, Site Feeds, T-Shirts No Comments »

In the past, a few stores have run into the issue of overselling a product. This could happen when the product had only one left in stock and two people went to buy it at the same time. That’s a pretty frustrating experience since it usually means emailing one of the customers explaining that they don’t actually get the item they thought they were getting. Well we weren’t very happy with that so we did something about it.

The source of the problem is a delay between the sale being made at PayPal and us being notified so we can update the inventory. To get around that, we’re trying a new feature we call inventory reserve. Now when your customer adds an item to their cart, it’s removed from your inventory for 10 minutes. This gives them time to checkout while preventing someone else from buying the same item. If they don’t end up buying the item, it gets added back to your inventory and becomes available for purchase again.

If you run a store that receives a rush of orders on limited products, please let us know how this new feature works for you.
