I can remember installing the Japanese version of the 2.0 firmware in order to get access to the web browser on my PSP way back in July 2005. Released on November 20th and now at version 5.02, a rapid update from 5.0/5.01 adds just a few features mostly around updating the Playstation store experience and a couple of other PSP-3001 series specific options.
Too bad I’m sticking with my PSP-2001 “slim” for now. Read more at the Playstation.com website.
Just right before I went to sleep, I decided to fire up NBA 2K9 and was prompted to update to the new 2.50 firmware. The cool bits, my PS3 can now finally view Adobe Flash Player 9 material.
Erm. Great. I don’t even like using the browser to view the PlayStation Store for free downloads. Perhaps now things will be better. Also, the Sony PSP is up for a version 5.0 upgrade - up from 4.05 today too.
Update: 01:44am EST (GMT-5) and the PSP update is still not showing up for me.

Looks like Sony is releasing their Life with PlayStation functionality that brings news, weather, and other typical “start of the day” activities from the non-interactive and usually boring morning news to your PlayStation 3.
Now… if only I can learn how to fight the temptation to avoid squeezing in a quick game or two before going to work.
If you’ve ever wished you could find everything you need to start your day on your PLAYSTATION 3, Life with PlayStation give you one more reason to do so. This free service delivers a new way for you to utilize your PS3 to instantly access real-time news and information like weather updates from over 60 cities around the world.
Life with PlayStation provides a stunning interactive globe, a 3D world map that you can twirl around to see live cloud movement courtesy of the University of Wisconsin, combined with up-to-date weather information from the Weather Channel, top news headlines provided by Google news, and live web cam images via the Earth Television Network — all localized to the select city. And why not have your favorite soundtrack playing in the background while you go through your morning ritual (just think, no TV commercials and teasers to find out if you need to bring an umbrella to work)? You’re on your own for your morning caffeine fix.
American games with a Sony Playstation 3 that are dying to be a part of the Playstation oft-delayed Home Beta… listen up:
Later today, the PLAYSTATION Store will be updated with a PlayStation Home theme. By downloading the theme, users are submitting an application to join the PlayStation Home Beta test community. We will be using a variety of criteria including activity on the PLAYSTATION Network to determine eligibility for the Beta community. Existing beta testers have automatically qualified to be part of the expanded beta.
We’re really excited about this milestone and want our most loyal fans to be a part of the evolution of PlayStation Home.
Can’t believe that I hadn’t seen this one yet, but quickly after the Sony PSP 4.0 upgrade, Sony slipped out the 4.01 update in the US.
What does it add? Good question. I can’t find anything particularly new or worthy of a dot upgrade. They already added the redundantGoogle search portion of the app. Just wish they’d bring out the PSP Camera in the US. I should play with my PSP more often.
The guys over at Ubergizmo caught a frame that all-but-confirms that Skype is indeed coming for the Sony PSP - Playstation Portable.
Maybe that means that the US gamers will finally get the Chotto Shot camera attachment that just never quite materialized in the US. Same with the GPS Receiver attachment as well.
Heck… that means that my Nokia N810 won’t be the only gadget in my pocket with Skype.
