If you think 3D TV is little more than a <strike>new</strike> old gimmick that requires annoying glasses and a new television, you might want to skip this post. If you think 3DTV is a compelling product, you might be interested to note that Verizon has been working with the New York Football Giants on broadcasting the first ever NFL game in 3D (well, preseason, anyway). Verizon will be showing the September 2 preseason match-up between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots in 3D to FiOS TV customers.

If you recall, Verizon earlier this year called similar cable “first ever” 3D sports efforts “hype,” and insisted they’d be ramping up their own 3D efforts ahead of the 2010 holiday season.

Nintendo Announces Nintendo 3DS with Real 3D Stereoscopic Screen without the need for 3D Glasses

I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t Nintendo just release a DS variant just a scant few months ago? Ignore that Nintendo DS XL. You want the Nintendo 3DS. It has a widescreen 3.5″ screen up top that gives you the sense of 3D without the need for expensive and cumbersome glasses like you do with the current 3D movies and HDTV televisions. On the (outside) hood of the Nintendo 3DS, there are a pair of 0.3 megapixel <strike>I know, low, but it’s a only a video game system</strike> that allows for 3D picture taking.

Shown just yesterday at the E3, the following is known:

Size (when closed): Approximately 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, 0.8 inches tall
Weight: Approximately 8 ounces
Top Screen: 3.53-inch widescreen LCD display, enabling 3D view without the need for special glasses; with 800×240 pixel resolution (400 pixels are allocated for each eye to enable 3D viewing)
Touch Screen: 3.02-inch LCD with 320×240 pixel resolution with a touch screen
Cameras: One inner camera and two outer cameras with 640×480 (0.3 Mega) pixel resolution
Game Controls: Touch screen, embedded microphone, A/B/X/Y face buttons, + Control Pad, L/R buttons, Start and Select buttons, “Slide Pad” that allows 360-degree analog input, one inner camera, two outer cameras, motion sensor and a gyro sensor
Input/Output: A port that accepts both Nintendo 3DS game cards and game cards for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems, an SD memory card slot, an AC adapter connector, a charging cradle terminal and a stereo headphone output jack.

No details on pricing yet, but consider this a serious DOWANT.

Panasonic unveiled the world’s first fully-integrated full HD 3D camcorder during CES 2010. In Panasonic’s new Full HD 3D camcorder, the lenses, camera head, and a dual Memory Card recorder are integrated into a single, lightweight body. The camcorder also incorporates stereoscopic adjustment controls making it easier to use and operate.

The twin-lens system adopted in the camcorder’s optical section allows the convergence point to be adjusted. Functions for automatically correcting horizontal and vertical displacement are also provided. Conventional 3D camera systems require these adjustments to be made by means of a PC or an external video processor. This new camcorder, however, will automatically recalibrate without any need for external equipment, allowing immediate 3D image capture.

The solid-state memory file-based recording system offers greater flexibility to produce Full HD 3D videos in more challenging shooting environments. The camcorder is lighter weight and smaller than current 3D rigs, while providing the flexibility of handheld-style shooting. Setup and transportation is simplified, making it ideal for sports, documentary and filmmaking projects.

SEOUL, Korea (AVING) — <visual News> Fujifilm Korea announced the launch of ‘FinePix Real 3D W1′, a groundbreaking 3D digital camera equipped with the world’s first 3D digital imaging technology ‘FinePix Real 3D System’ that lets you enjoy three dimensional images without the need to wear special 3D glasses.

To achieve a natural, 3D image, it was necessary to flawlessly layer together two images, so two Fujinon lenses, renowned for their high resolution and exquisite rendering, were installed. A robust aluminum die-cast frame has been used to protect the lenses from vibration and impact.

A 3x optical zoom, deemed difficult to achieve in 3D photography because of the precision required to align two lenses, is also possible. Moreover, the “RP (Real Photo) Processor…
