AT&T is once again dropping hints that the carrier wants to change (read: increase) wireless data pricing. Many investors have been pressuring the company to ditch the $30 unlimited iPhone data plan and instead replace it with some kind of metered billing model.

At launch, Google took heat for a number of things related to their Nexus One Android based smartphone, including the fact that customers who canceled service early faced $550 in fees – a $200 ETF from T-Moble, and a $350 Google “Equipment Recovery Fee”.

Previously, both AT&T and Verizon had only made data mandatory for smartphones. Apparently, neither carrier wants you buying an Internet-enabled phone, then only using free Wi-Fi instead of their pricey 3G networks. From the sound of things, now carriers don’t want you using free IM services instead of SMS, either.

Could this be the Microsoft “Pink”, aka the Zune Phone? Reports indicate that Microsoft will show it at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress 2010.

A new filing with the FCC indicates that the Google phone, the Nexus One, will eventually be coming to AT&T’s network as well.

Apple announced that AT&T would be the exclusive partner for the new iPad, and contrary to expectations – no Verizon (EVDO) compatible iPhone was announced.

Novatel’s MiFi portable 3G to Wi-Fi router has become very popular among carriers, many of which are now selling rebranded version of the devices to their 3G customers – both Sprint and Verizon sell the unit as the MiFi 2200.

AT&T today announced new unlimited plans across all devices – including its industry-leading lineup of smartphones – to provide more value and choice for customers who want to talk, text and surf on the nation’s fastest 3G network.

The upcoming Google phone (aka the “Nexus One”) already indicated that the device was designed specifically for T-Mobile, though neither Google or T-Mobile confirmed it – until now.

Fake Steve Jobs (journalist Dan Lyons) recently proposed that iPhone users earlier today at 3PM EST begin gobbling up as much bandwidth as possible – in protest of AT&T’s shoddy 3G network performance.

iPhone users need to be educated exactly what a megabyte is, apparently. And the argument that an already hugely profitable company wants to charge even more money for bandwidth isn’t one that sits well with consumers.

LG Electronics launches its Android based smartphone OPhone, model: LG GW880 in the China market. The LG OPhone supports TD-SCDMA, the 3G standard in China.

Last week AT&T tried their best to get Verizon’s new series of ads shuttered that poked fun at AT&T’s lackluster 3G coverage. Verizon shot back to AT&T’s complaint as a “perfectly fair form of advertising”.

GOGII, Inc. has recently updated their textPlus Apple iPhone application to version 2.0 and added the ability for people to simply respond to your free username via textPlus 2.0 and you’ll receive the message whether you’re in the app or via the Apple iPhone 3.0 enabled push notifications when you’re not in the app.
