HTC Google Chrome Tablet On Verizon In November - To be offered subsidized with long-term Verizon contract

It’s been already noted that Motorola is building an Android-based tablet to be sold by Verizon later this year, with functionality tied to FiOS TV. Now come reports that HTC is building a Chrome-driven tablet computer for Verizon that will launch on November 26.

Tablet mania has clearly infected many ISPs, who will either be offer TV Everywhere Internet video apps for tablets (Comcast, Cablevision, AT&T, Time Warner Cable) or offering tablets themselves later this year. Much like the recent netbook craze, expect ISPs to give these things away at a subsidized price point if you sign a long-term wireless broadband contract.

Update: Verizon today also expanded on their iPad application ambitions today in great detail.

Update: Seems like this was a hoax. Damn.

Bell Canada's Profit Doubles - without the need for usage-based billing. In fact, no North American ISP who claims expensive new metering models are financially necessary are ever able to prove it.

Last year Canadian incumbent Bell Canada throttled the bandwidth of wholesale competitors, so they couldn’t offer unthrottled services that were better than Bell’s own, throttled DSL service. The company then started pushing for usage-based billing (UBB) for wholesalers, meaning competitors would now be paying for bandwidth on both ends (smaller Canadian ISPs lament this as double dipping and a tactic designed to drive them out of business). Bell Canada has justified the moves by saying they’re financially necessary in order to fund network expansion. However, BCE’s earnings this week indicate the company’s profit more than doubled. Why was usage-based billing necessary again? Surely someday, somebody is going to notice that the North American ISPs who claim expensive new metering models are financially necessary are never able to prove it.
