Halloween is around the corner (it’s on Monday) and instead of wearing some geeky costume with zero scare appeal, why not get a free application for your iPhone that assists in your scare endeavors?

NameScreamer yells popular names combined with horrendous phrases that send shivers down the spine. There are 6 chilling voices, 9 hair raising phrases and 6 dreadful animated characters to choose from: Ghost, Banshee, Zombie, Devil, Creeper or Raving Lunatic.

The timer button can be used to postpone the scream allowing users to hide their devices and horrify unsuspecting victims. There is also a possibility to send screams via email or post them on Facebook to terrify people who stay up later and live by themselves.

Name Screamer is free and currently available in the Apple iTunes Music Store. Go get it and scare some folks!

We all have credit cards, debit cards, passwords and other stuff we’d love to keep secure someway, somehow. OneSafe for all of the iOS devices – iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch – can do just that.

Lunabee Pte Ltd is proud to announce the release and immediate availability of oneSafe app, a reliable and secure password manager and data vault that securely stores confidential information relating to credit cards, bank accounts, logins as well as various types of documents and images. With a great interface and functionality, the powerful and feature-rich application is truly the place to store anything private or in need of high security.

OneSafe delivers a broad range of possibilities, enabling users to securely store passwords and logins, bank account numbers, loyalty cards, access codes, IDs and may more. The app protects the sensitive information using 256-bit AES encryption and locks the data behind a four-digit unlock code, visual pattern or an alphanumeric code. With unique browser technology, oneSafe automatically logs users into websites where they used those passwords. Ready-made templates are designed to enter the details and keep them in order. The data can be organized by categories, marked as favorite and easily searched.

The guys over at Lunabee have crafted OneSafe to be as easy to use and secure as you can be on your iOS device with an easy to use and remember pattern or alphanumeric code as well as browser integration for ease of automatic sign-ins.

Best of all, it’s free. But if you want additional capacity, you will have to purchase that via an in-app purchase.

The Holiday Shopping Season is Officially Open BradsDeals Launches BlackFriday2010.com Site and Free Apple iPhone App

I love gadgets almost as much as I like saving money and finding deals. Got word about Bradsdeals launching Black Friday 2010, a website dedicated to bring together all of the upcoming November 26th Black Friday Deals.

Brad Wilson, Founder of BradsDeals.com is proud to announce the launch of BlackFriday2010.com, the leading website devoted to researching, planning and executing a fun and successful Black Friday shopping strategy.

BlackFriday2010.com is the source for pre-released Black Friday ads for major stores. Visitors will find the latest holiday shopping news and tips, plus printable coupons and Brad’s handpicked deals, many of which are provided on an exclusive basis by retailers to BlackFriday2010.com.

“Black Friday is more than great deals and it is more than shopping,” said Wilson. “It’s a social event. Mothers and daughters, cousins, friends – they all research for weeks, scouring through our leaked Black Friday Ads, planning the timing and tactics they need to get the best deals.”

Last year, more than 10 Million shoppers saved money using the Black Friday site. The average consumer saved nearly 25% on their purchase.

In order to make shopping as simple as possible, Wilson will provide a free Black Friday iPhone app that allows shoppers to take all the store ads and information on the go.

So the site combined with the free Apple iPhone app makes for a killer way to save a lot of money this Black Friday. Oh… and Brad’s Deals isn’t just a one or two trick pony. Immediately after Black Friday, Brad’s Deals will unveil CyberMonday2010.com to help you save even more online.

Be smart, use BradsDeals.com and BlackFriday2010.com and don’t miss out on the savings this year.

If you don’t recall, I’m a huge fan of Bento 3 for the Apple iPhone and Apple OS X platforms. It’s the one program that got my typical cluttered mess into an organized <strike>mess</strike> situation. Which… is pretty darn amazing to me. Filemaker has added a new option to make Bento 3 even more useful:

FileMaker, Inc. today announced the Bento 3 Project Manager, a brand new set of templates designed to make it easy for Mac users to track their personal projects and manage their time within one integrated, intuitive place. The Bento 3 Project Manager includes a free 30-day trial of the popular Bento 3 personal database for Mac, plus two professionally designed, ready-to-use templates.

Templates in the Bento 3 Project Manager include:

Project Dashboard, with forms for project overview, milestones, tasks, communications, related files such as photos and presentations, and time sheets.

Time Sheets, with pre-defined Smart Collections for hours billed, hours to be billed, and amounts due. All of this detailed information can be located quickly using iTunes-style searching.

The FIleMaker Bento 3 Project Manager also works with Bento for iPad and Bento for iPhone.

Bento 3 syncs up with your Apple iCal Calendar tasks and events, your Apple Address Book contacts and phone numbers and the Bento 3 Project Manager templates are a free download.

Starting today, you can call any phone right from Gmail.

Google finally is showing off what exactly that Gizmo Project purchase can do for you. Earlier this year, Google Voice was made available for all US citizens, finally leaving the closed beta since it’s Grand Central days – yet another Google purchase. Anyway, it works as easy as follows:

Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates. We worked hard to make these rates really cheap (see comparison table) with calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan and many more countries – for as little as $0.02 per minute.

Dialing a phone number works just like a normal phone. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name.

It is possible to embed a font in your webpage and send it to users - James Mowery

Choosing good fonts seem to be one of the hardest parts of a web design. How can you choose a good looking font without using the same 2 or 3 websafe fonts over and over? You can probably work a traditional font into your design, but even the standard Times New Roman or Helvetica isn’t present on 100% of computers. Here are some ways to use the latest technology to make sure that you get the font you want on your site.

HTML 5 / CSS 3 Embeded Fonts

Let’s get this out of the way first. It is possible to embed a font in your webpage and send it to users. This would be great, except for the fact that it has all sorts of issues. For one thing, it has major compatibility issues. You have to do quite a bit of CSS and HTML magic to get it to work exactly the same on all browsers. Even if you get it to work, then there’s still the issues of getting a font. Technically, this counts as redistributing a font, so you can’t do it unless you are licensed to use the font (which is expensive), or use a public domain font (which can work, but there are many bad free fonts out there and only a few good ones).

The Free Way: Google Fonts API

The Google Fonts API is a great free service which lets you use any of the fonts in their (somewhat limited) directory for free. All you have to do is add a header link to your HTML to import a stylesheet, and then you can use the font.

The Paid Way: TypeKit

Same thing as Google Fonts API, only it costs – but they have a way bigger and better selection of fonts. You can sign up and use their service to legally and easily embed fonts on your site.

Have an Apple iPhone 4 and want to protect your “preciousssss” from scratches and smudge marks? Are you feeling lucky? Well do you?

Remove The Labels has exactly one precision cut Zagg invisibleSHIELD for the Apple iPhone 4 Front. To enter, there’s just a couple of rules, but the entry is simple enough. Unfortunately, I’m limiting this one to US Residents only.

In order to win, all you have to do is leave a comment with the following two pieces of information:

Post “I am in the US and give you permission to use my e-mail address to contact me if I win!” or “I am in the US and I don’t give you permission to use my e-mail address to contact me if I win!”
and solve: What is 2 + 6?

Once you post the above two pieces of information, at the end of this contest I will use a random generator to figure out which person wins. Contest will end on August 16th, 2010, by 5pm EST. Your e-mail will not be posted, nor used for anything else other than just to contact you once you win. If you choose not to post your comment with the e-mail address in the supplied spot (DO NOT PUT the e-mail address in the comment, just use area in the form), when I make the announcement, make sure you come back to claim your winnings by sending an e-mail to within 24 hours, or I will grab the second person:

webmaster [at] removethelabels [dot] com

Zagg invisibleSHIELD retails for $14.99 at their website. And no… I’m not sending the Apple iPhone 4 phone, just an unopened Apple invisibleSHIELD by ZAGG front protection to protect one.

Given that AT&T’s other hotspot partners McDonalds and Barnes and Noble now offer free Wi-Fi and AT&T offers free Wi-Fi to most of their DSL, U-Verse and wireless customers – it seemed like only a matter of time before Starbucks left paid Wi-Fi behind. According to a company statement, Wi-Fi in Starbucks stores will be completely free starting July 1 and they will simplify the login process so that it’s “one click.”

The company also announced that this fall they’ll launch the Starbucks Digital Network, which will only be accessible in stores, and will offer users access to a number of paywalled outlets like the Wall Street Journal.

First giveaway of the year: Rollip.com and removethelabels.com are offering the first 15 signups a FREE professional account and 30 credits worth about $6 per account. Enjoy!

While I love the detail that my 10.2 megapixel Sony DSLR can output, it lacks that soft focus and warmth that my 30 year old Canon 35mm camera tends to introduce into each picture. Sure, I can open up Adobe Photoshop – and often do – to alter my photos, but not everybody has either a Lomo camera or Polaroid or the money and/or patience to alter the levels, colors, brightness and contrast via Adobe Photoshop.

What to do? There are other applications out there, some are even for the Apple iPhone, like ToyCamera for instance, but even those can be somewhat harder to use because they have sliders and options that can become confusing if you’re just dragging and playing with their values. Enter Rollip with a set of online “filters” that make your photos look like they’ve been taken on an older camera, or they enhance the contrast or even make your colors pop out among other filters.

After playing with a couple of photos, I’d consider Rollip almost dummy proof (read: even I had no problems with it). You start by selecting your desired effect, then upload the image via the browser, Rollip.com does some magic, and then sends you your image back to your e-mail or you can download it immediately. No sliders, no confusion, and pretty darn quick. And it works if you’re on a PC, a Mac or Linux too it seems.

And for a limited time, Rollip.com and Remove The Labels are offering the first 15 people a FREE Pro account with 30 credits (about $6.00 worth of credit) by using this link: http://www.rollip.com/pro?coupon=removethelabels348 and signing up.

I love sushi. I love seafood. I love my Apple iPhone. Combine all three and I’ll be happy… oh wait, Monterey Bay Aquarium has just done that. Well, you can’t exactly eat the app, but you can install the free Apple iPhone app and see whether or not what you’re buying is not only environmentally friendly but also what should be avoided due a plethora of reasons from overfishing to health concerns due to shipping or place of origin.

Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch, our new iPhone application brings the latest Seafood Watch recommendations directly to your iPhone or iPod touch.
And if you’re not an Apple iPhone owner, you can user their mobile website just as well. Definitely worth it if you enjoy some of the yummier things from the sea and wish to raise your awareness about not only what you eat but how your decisions affect the future generations as well.

Thanks Janice for the tip. This one is staying on my iPhone!

The fine dining establishment has traditionally charged customers $2.95 for two hours of Internet access at 11,000 of its 14,000 U.S. locations. McDonald’s wants to lift the fee in the hopes that patrons will “hang around during down times between meals,” soaking up the ambiance created by bright plastic and yelling children overdosed on corn syrup and carbohydrates. McDonald’s also apparently wants to leech a few coffee drinkers from Starbucks, which charges $3.99 for two-hours of Internet access. The Wi-Fi at McDonald’s is powered by AT&T, who already offer free Wi-Fi to their broadband and wireless customers.
