The Samsung GALAXY Tab is packed with services to complement and enhance life in different ways.

While the 7-inch tablet from Samsung does not share the impressive Super AMOLED screen that the cellphone Galaxy S series possess, the Samsung Galaxy Tab does come with: Google Android 2.2 (Froyo), the same 1Ghz Hummingbird Processor, the same TouchWiz UI changes.

Why did Samsung make a 7” Tablet—because we’re into mobility and know that people are looking for compact communication and entertainment devices they can slip in their pocket and bring on the go. The GALAXY Tab is always connected, lightweight and smart. Its exceptional screen is designed for reading books and magazines, watching movies and playing games. The GALAXY Tab tablet builds on the rich content experience provided by the Galaxy S line of Android smart phones.

With an absolutely huge 4000mAh battery – the average Galaxy S cellphone has a 1500mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will definitely last quite a bit; I’m just not sure if it’ll have enough usage time to beat the (reported) up to 10 hours usage of the Apple iPad.

Comes with Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and GPS navigational services; there’s a rumored version for each US carrier just like their Galaxy S series of cellphones. I’m personally waiting on the Wi-Fi only version as opposed to the 3G versions.

HTC Event has made some announcements. The HTC Desire Z is one new Android based phone with a seriously nice keyboard.

Looking more sinister than the previous keyboard enabled HTC G1, the HTC Desire Z is one slick looking piece of kit. Due to debut with Android 2.1 with Android 2.2 (Froyo) will be released shortly as a firmware upgrade.

Due to the Samsung supplied AMOLED shortage, this HTC will have an Super LCD instead. And the Desire Z will have the typical GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA connections. Disappointing bits, besides the Android 2.1 is that it comes with only a 5MP camera with a single LED flash. No word on which carriers will get this nor price yet.

App Inventor is simple to use, but also very powerful. Apps you build can even store data created by users in a database, so you can create a make-a-quiz app in which the teachers can save questions in a quiz for their students to answer.

Coding an application from scratch is an intense affair. Libraries, references, classes, includes, programming patterns and if you’re not a programmer, it’s an uphill battle to even get started on a concept.

You can build just about any app you can imagine with App Inventor. Often people begin by building games like WhackAMole or games that let you draw funny pictures on your friend’s faces. You can even make use of the phone’s sensors to move a ball through a maze based on tilting the phone.

But app building is not limited to simple games. You can also build apps that inform and educate. You can create a quiz app to help you and your classmates study for a test. With Android’s text-to-speech capabilities, you can even have the phone ask the questions aloud.

To use App Inventor, you do not need to be a developer. App Inventor requires NO programming knowledge. This is because instead of writing code, you visually design the way the app looks and use blocks to specify the app’s behavior.

Via Google Labs, App Inventor for Android allows easy access to the GPS, desktop, SMS and web portions for even the non-programmer. The inevitable fart or banner app that announces your name from across the room will pop-up, but this is a very quick way to start out programming and overcome the hurdles of learning Android from scratch.

Based on Java and able to connect to your Android phone, this looks like an impressive way to start out.

In my city (Greenville, SC), the BMW Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament is currently going on and while thinking about hitting up the Thornblade golf course, it hit me.

I don’t know how many yards is hole 8, and if hole 14 would be a dogleg left with a par 5, let alone the par for each hole. And history has shown me that I shouldn’t trust the markers on most courses. They can be 10-30 yards off and I should have used a 5 iron instead of a 3 iron.

Heck, the last golf course I had been to was the local one to me down in Charleston, South Carolina and not in Greenville, South Carolina. So even though I’m in the same state but about 220 miles displaced, man I still get lost while driving. Let alone while walking around a strange golf course. And as a man, you know I can’t ask for directions and forget about reading signs. Especially since… well, I just don’t trust them to be accurate.

Enter IZZO’s Swami 1500 Golf GPS.

Izzo Golf is pleased to announce its entry into the GPS market with the new SWAMI 1500. The SWAMI is a simple, fast, and accurate, hand held GPS product that retails for $149.

The SiRFstarIII™ chips and the INSTA-LOK™ Technology quickly display the distance to the Front, Center, and Back of the green. SWAMI holds up to 10 courses at a time and there are over 12,000 courses available.

SWAMI tells all – It offers a large, easy to read display and is very simple to operate. More information regarding the SWAMI is available at www.izzo.com.

SWAMI comes boxed with:

Belt Clip

Wall Unit Charger

USB Cable

Quick Start Instructions

Setup Disc

For under $150 bucks I can keep my manhood stereotype of never asking for directions alive – even if it seems like the course is a bit longer or shorter than I expected, walk around just about any golf course and seem like I know what I’m talking about and never have to worry about where the 19th hole is at either. I’d be prepared to accurately suss out the amount of yards per hole and the amount of yardage to the green.

The Golf GPS IZZO Swami 1500 handheld is a must have for any golfer and a good early idea Father’s Day. And for a small yearly fee, you can download about 12,000 other golf courses and switch out the ones you’re close to while traveling. In fact, once you power it up on the course, it’ll know what course you’re playing and how far you’ve got to go precisely.

And with other Golf GPS costing $300 and above, it’s a deal.

<strike>Yeah, take the hint</strike>

Thanks Brian for the information!
