15 Feb 2010I’m sure you’ve heard the news: Moblin and maemo are merging! We are taking the best pieces from these two open source projects and are creating the MeeGo software platform. Both teams have worked for a long time to support the needs of the mobile user experience – and MeeGo will make this even better. We want it to be fun, focused, flexible, technically challenging and ultimately, something that can change the world.

24 Jan 2010Call it a work in progress, but some illustrious members of Maemo.org have gotten Google Android (Eclair) to boot and be functional on the Maemo Linux based Nokia N900. Why is it a work in progress? The touchscreen works, as well as the keyboard on the N900; however you will not be making any phone calls via Android on the N900 quite yet. In fact, not all sounds or modules have been interfaced yet.

15 Oct 2009Nokia announced today a total combined loss of 1.36 Billion – that with a big “B” folks – due to slumping sales during it’s Summer 2009 sales. This would include the sale(s) of their flagship Nokia N97 which sold relatively strong with 2 million units in about 3 months. The problem though was that most users shifted from their flagship, more expensive phones to much lesser expensive phones due to the global economy downturn.
About a day or so ago, I mentioned FlyCast’s BlackBerry mobile radio software. Thanks to the nice people at FlyCast – and also because I have only a few Nokia phones as well as Apple iPhone 3G to currently do my testing so feel free to send me some test phones! – I have some [...]
I normally don’t like to start rumors… but I’ve yet to see anything mentioned anywhere about the Motorola Aura. It’s going to be their upscale “answer” to the Nokia 8800 series. It’ll come at a premium price, be made of premium materials… and yes. I’ve actually seen it. More when I can actually talk about [...]

Well, after the Google Talk announcement for the iPhone and iPod Touch Mobile Safari browsers yesterday, Gizmo Project – which until my Nokia N810 I had rarely used since all of my contacts were either on Skype or other IM protocols (MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ) – announced the ability to use IM via your cellphone. [...]
As a present owner of a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet, I found this news to be real interesting. ReQuest, the preeminent manufacturer of hard disk music servers and server-based whole-house media systems, has released a version 4.6 update to its Serious Play™ Media Manager software for the company’s full range of music servers, the N.Series, [...]

22 Jan 2008What has basically been one of the busiest starts of any year for me has meant that I’ve not updated the site like I normally would have. I have a review for a few items from Insignia, Rocketfish, Nokia, MagicJack, and even Skype and Gizmo Project. And amazingly enough, I’ve even somehow avoided the 2008 [...]
